What is Nano Banana? Why is it trending on social media?

On X, Facebook, and Instagram, the hashtag #NanoBanana is gaining massive traction as users share images transformed into toy figures using Nano Banana. This is a product of Google Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, a versatile generative AI that supports figure creation, image prediction, multi-image blending, and many other creative features.

Since August 2025, Google officially announced Nano Banana and integrated it into Gemini 2.5 Flash, allowing users to not only create figures but also experience powerful multimedia AI capabilities.

Guide to creating figures (toy collectibles) using Nano Banana

The process of creating a personal figure is extremely simple; even beginners can do it in just a few minutes.

Step 1: Prepare a full-body photo of yourself

Prepare a full-body photograph. If you want to create interactive videos with the model, you should use a landscape photo (16:9).

Step 2: Create the toy figure on Google AI Studio

For details on how to use Nano Banana to create images for free, you can refer to the instructional post below:
Nano Banana – The super cool AI photo editor from Google

Or watch this video to understand the basic usage first:

Access Google AI Studio: https://aistudio.google.com

Simple Basic Toy Figure

Upload your photo and use the prompt below to create a simple toy model.

Create a 1/7 scale figure, realistic design, in a commercial product photography style.
Realistic PVC model with a glossy effect on hair and clothes.
Display the complete figure on a clear circular acrylic base, stable and natural standing pose, using a clear acrylic rod attached to the base or the figure's feet firmly plugged into the base.

Set it all on a clean indoor desk, illuminated by soft, realistic lighting that highlights the figure's textures.
Add light reflections on the acrylic base.

Overall feel like an official, professional, luxury product showcase.
Result:

Adding a toy box next to it

Add this line to the prompt to add a toy box next to the figure, with a name on the box chosen by you.

Place the packaging box behind and to the right of the figure, designed in BANDAI style, printed with full-color 2D body artwork of the character from head to toe.
The box has a natural gloss. The text "Yuto Tech" is prominently displayed on the box.
Result:

Adding a computer screen during design

Additionally, you can add a computer screen showing the model being designed by adding the following line to the prompt.

On a nearby computer screen, show a grey clay sculpture model of the character in ZBrush, focusing on the digital details of the sculpting phase.
Result:

Pretty simple, right? 😁

At this point, you can already create a toy model of yourself. Next is how to create a realistic interactive video with the figure.

Step 3: Create an interactive video with the figure on Veo

First, let me explain why the original photo should be in landscape orientation instead of portrait. This is because Veo currently only creates videos in a landscape aspect ratio (16:9).

If it's a portrait photo, the resulting video might look awkward at the top, for example:

(2.01 MB)

If it's a landscape photo, the generated video will be well-balanced, for example:

Editing the photo into landscape (16:9)

If your photo is already in landscape, skip this step.

If using Photoshop:
Photoshop’s Generative Expand feature is very useful for this. Select the 16:9 aspect ratio and then choose Generative Expand to create a landscape image.

The result will be a 16:9 landscape photo like this:

If using Nano Banana
If you don't have Photoshop, you can use Nano Banana to create a landscape photo as follows.

Prepare a white landscape image, for example:

Then in AI Studio, upload your portrait and the landscape background, then use the prompt below to blend them into a landscape photo:

Add this person to the image below
Note: You must upload your photo first, followed by the landscape photo, to properly generate the landscape version.

Once you have the landscape photo, go back to Step 2 and reuse the prompts there to recreate your figure image.

Using Veo to create interactive videos with the figure

In AI Studio, access Veo through the Generate media → Veo menu, or via the link below:
https://aistudio.google.com/prompts/new_video

Upload your newly created figure image and use the command below to generate the video; you can change "Female" to "Male" for male hands.

Add realistic female hands holding the toy figure from the uploaded image.
The hands should look natural, gently gripping the sides of the figure as if lifting it up, without covering or obscuring the figure’s head or any details.
Keep the original figure, including the head, colors, and background unchanged.
Make the hands proportionate, feminine, with natural skin tone, and well-lit under the same lighting conditions as the photo.

And you will have a video result showing hands holding your own custom toy model.
