Guide to Adding Funds to Your OpenAI Account for API Usage

OpenAI offers some pretty cool APIs that allow you to build smart chat applications or create unique images. To use the API, you first need to add funds to your account. In this post, I’ll provide a quick guide on how to top up your account to use OpenAI’s API.

First, access the link below to log in to the OpenAI website.

Your ChatGPT account is the same as your OpenAI account.

After logging in, on the left-hand menu, click on Settings -> Billing

The Billing screen will display your remaining balance. For those who have never added funds before, it will show as 0.00$.

Click on Add to credit balance, and if you haven’t added a payment method yet, on the screen that appears, click on Add payment method

Next, enter your credit/debit card information.
To add funds, input the amount in the field, then click on Confirm payment to complete the transaction.

To check the costs you’ve incurred, on the left-hand menu, click on the Usage section.
The screen will display detailed information about your API usage costs on a monthly basis.
